New Opportunities from a novel design method

LPI is constantly improving its optical design tools. A good example of this is the extension of its 2D and 3D SMS design method into the Imaging Optics field. While the method is classically a Nonimaging Optics design method, LPI has been involved and is also participating on different projects with an important basis on technology innovation. Some of them can be shown as:

• Developing optics for new panoramic vision cameras for infrared and visible applications to improve the performance and cost of existing equipment. In particular, improvements in the horizontal resolution of these optics can be applied immediately to devices used in fire detection, driving support, homeland security (such as building vigilance or vision through shielded environments).
• Optical systems for ultra short-throw projection. In the short term, these devices can be used as an accessory to conventional projectors (home cinema). Other applications include multimedia equipment for virtual reality spaces with rear, frontal or surround projection.
